This resolution creates the Senate Rosenwald Schools Study Committee to investigate the history and impact of Rosenwald schools in Georgia. The committee will consist of five Senate members appointed by the Senate President, who will also designate a chairperson. The committee's primary purpose is to study the conditions, needs, and issues related to Rosenwald schools, which were a collaborative effort between Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington to build schools for Black children in poor, rural Southern communities during the early 1900s. In Georgia, the program funded over 240 schools in 103 counties, serving at least 35,000 children. The committee is authorized to conduct meetings as needed, with members receiving standard legislative allowances, and is required to file a report with any findings or recommended legislation. The committee will be funded by Senate-appropriated funds and will be abolished on December 1, 2025. Any report must be approved by a majority vote of a quorum and signed by the chairperson before being filed with the Secretary of the Senate.
