This bill, known as the VSAFE Act of 2025 (Veterans Scam And Fraud Evasion Act of 2025), aims to protect veterans from scams and fraud by establishing a Veterans Scam and Fraud Evasion Officer within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This officer will be responsible for creating and implementing plans to prevent, report, and respond to fraud and scams affecting veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors. Key duties include communicating important information during fraud incidents, providing consistent guidance on identifying and reporting scams, promoting the VA's VSAFE Fraud Hotline and website (VSAFE.gov), and monitoring fraud metrics to identify trends. The officer will also develop training for VA employees, coordinate with various federal agencies like the IRS and Department of Justice to improve fraud prevention efforts across the government, and consult with veterans' organizations. Importantly, this bill does not authorize an increase in the number of full-time employees at the VA and its provisions will expire on September 30, 2030. Additionally, the bill makes a minor adjustment to the date for extending certain limits on pension payments.
