This bill amends the existing law to require the auditor general to establish and implement a comprehensive performance audit schedule for all state agencies and quasi-public governmental agencies, beginning January 1, 2026. Performance audits, which are examinations of an agency's administrative effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance with laws, will now be systematically conducted according to a predetermined schedule. The auditor general will be responsible for evaluating each agency's performance and must report any agencies that fail to meet performance standards to key government leaders, including the governor, the speaker of the house, and the senate president, by January 1st of each year. The bill builds upon the existing powers of the auditor general, who already conducts various types of audits, and adds a new mandatory, structured approach to reviewing state agency performance. This requirement aims to increase government accountability, transparency, and operational effectiveness by ensuring regular, comprehensive reviews of how state agencies are functioning and utilizing public resources. The bill will take effect immediately upon its passage.
