This bill aims to promote health and nutrition through a comprehensive set of measures affecting education, food labeling, and healthcare professional training. The bill establishes a Texas Nutrition Advisory Committee to develop nutritional guidelines and requires schools, higher education institutions, and healthcare professionals to incorporate nutrition education into their curricula. Specifically, the bill mandates daily physical activity for students from prekindergarten through eighth grade, requires high schools to offer an elective nutrition and wellness course, and compels colleges and medical schools to include nutrition education in their programs. Additionally, the bill requires food manufacturers to include warning labels on products containing certain ingredients deemed potentially harmful, listing over 50 specific additives and chemicals. Healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and other licensed practitioners, will be required to complete continuing education in nutrition and metabolic health as part of their license renewal process. The Texas Nutrition Advisory Committee, composed of seven members appointed by the governor, will be responsible for examining nutrition's impact on human health, reviewing scientific studies, and developing dietary guidelines.
