This resolution creates the National Statuary Hall Collection Replacement Committee to facilitate replacing Georgia's statue of Alexander Hamilton Stephens with a statue of President Jimmy Carter in the United States Capitol. The eight-member committee, appointed by the Governor (four members), Lieutenant Governor (two members), and Speaker of the House (two members), will have several key responsibilities: selecting a suitable location for the Stephens statue within Georgia, choosing a sculptor to create the Carter statue, reviewing and approving statue plans, estimating and managing replacement costs, and identifying private funding sources to cover all expenses. The committee will have the power to enter contracts, seek private funding, and take necessary actions to accomplish the statue replacement. Committee members who are legislators will receive standard allowances, state officials may be reimbursed for expenses, and non-governmental members will serve without compensation. After selecting a location for the Stephens statue, the Governor will submit a formal request to the Architect of the Capitol and the Joint Committee on the Library of Congress for approval of the statue replacement. The committee is set to be abolished on December 1, 2025, and the resolution honors President Jimmy Carter's distinguished career and significant contributions to Georgia and the United States.
