This resolution recognizes Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, as a significant holy month of spiritual renewal and fasting observed by Muslims worldwide. The resolution highlights that during Ramadan, which begins on the evening of February 28, 2025, Muslims focus on self-discipline, worship, helping humanity, and reading the Quran to improve patience and humility. It notes that approximately 1.8 billion Muslims exist globally, with 3.5 million in the United States and over 100,000 in Georgia, emphasizing the diversity of the Muslim population. The resolution acknowledges Muslim contributions to various societal sectors including medicine, science, engineering, economics, sports, education, military, and law. By officially recognizing Ramadan, the Georgia Senate extends best wishes to Muslims throughout Georgia and the United States for a joyous observance of Ramadan and the concluding celebration of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the month-long fasting period. The resolution also directs the Secretary of the Senate to distribute copies of the resolution to the public and press.
