This resolution recognizes and celebrates the Friends of Mitchell Park, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, on the occasion of their 20th anniversary in 2025. Founded in 1992 by community members Holly Sukenik and Betsy Santarlasci, the Friends of Mitchell Park has led a comprehensive restoration effort, working in partnership with the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation to transform the park. Their achievements include planting nearly 25,000 trees, shrubs, and flowers, hosting community events like the annual Fall Fun Day and summer film series, and maintaining the park's historical significance as a site listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
