This resolution congratulates the students from Jack Yates High School's JY Cinema program for advancing to the finals of the 2025 University Interscholastic League (UIL) Young Filmmakers Festival, marking a historic achievement as the first time the school has had two films reach the top six in two categories at the state finals. The two finalist entries are a narrative comedy called "Switchin' Classes" and a documentary titled "The Circle of the Storm - The Dustin Garrison Story", both of which address issues related to student voices. The 70 students in the program will each receive a prestigious UIL state medal, and the school will be awarded two state plaques. The resolution, adopted by the Texas House of Representatives, formally recognizes the students' hard work, commitment to excellence, and the pride they have brought to their school and community, and directs that an official copy of the resolution be prepared for the students as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
