This bill modifies Minnesota statutes to enhance transparency and information sharing regarding bail and bond posting, specifically for crimes against persons or violent crimes. The bill requires law enforcement agencies and courts to collect and share more detailed information about bail and bond postings, including the identity of the person or entity who posts bail when the defendant is charged with certain serious offenses. Under the new provisions, when bail is posted for crimes listed in sections 611A.031 or 629.725, the court administrator or judge must notify the custody agency about the bail amount and who posted it. The bill also requires personal sureties to provide detailed affidavits about their property and financial status when posting bail, and mandates that courts provide copies of these affidavits to the agency holding the defendant. Similarly, for corporate surety bonds, the court must notify the custody agency about the bond details and the identity of the entity posting the bond. These changes aim to increase accountability and provide more comprehensive information about bail postings, particularly for serious criminal cases. The new provisions will become effective the day after final enactment.
