This bill allows tribal governments, defined as the governments of federally recognized American Indian tribes or bands in Wisconsin, to copy certified copies of vital records for their administrative use, meaning for internal governmental purposes. Currently, certain entities like financial institutions and state agencies are permitted to copy these records for administrative use, and this bill extends that same privilege to tribal governments. This change is made by amending existing statute 69.30 (2) to include "tribal government" alongside other authorized entities and by creating a new section, 69.30 (1) (cm), to define "tribal government." The copied records must be marked "FOR ADMINISTRATIVE USE" to ensure they are not used for other purposes.
