This bill proposes a constitutional amendment in New York state that would require state or local government officials to resign from their current office if they intend to run for president of the United States. Specifically, the bill stipulates that no individual currently serving in a state or local government position (including roles such as governor, lieutenant governor, comptroller, attorney general, state legislators, and other local and state officers) may simultaneously run for president. If such an individual wishes to run for president, they must first declare their intention and then formally resign from their existing governmental position.
