This bill amends the New York General Business Law to require that professionals in nail specialty, natural hair styling, esthetics, and cosmetology complete at least one hour of domestic violence and sexual assault awareness education as part of their licensing process. The department will develop these educational courses in consultation with the Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and recognized advocacy groups that have expertise in domestic violence and sexual assault prevention and intervention. The bill will take effect 180 days after becoming law, giving professionals and licensing authorities time to implement the new training requirement.
