Bill Summary

This bill modifies provisions related to the minimum amount of instruction provided to students enrolled in school districts, accredited nonpublic schools, charter schools, and innovation zone schools. Current law establishes that the school calendar for school districts, accredited nonpublic schools, charter schools, and innovation zone schools is required to include not less than 180 days of instruction or 1,080 hours of instruction. The bill strikes the provision related to hours of instruction, which requires the school calendar to be measured in days of instruction and to include not less than 180 days of H.F. _____ instruction. The bill makes conforming changes, including changes related to the state board of education’s duty to define the minimum school day, the maximum amount of instruction that can be delivered primarily over the internet, and compulsory education.
