This resolution honors the life and memory of Cliff Rutledge, a distinguished broadcaster and educator from Columbus, Georgia, who passed away on February 18, 2024, at the age of 92. Throughout his seven-decade broadcasting career, Rutledge was a pioneering radio personality who called numerous memorable high school and college sporting events, including championship games for local schools like Carver and Kendrick. Beyond broadcasting, he was a dedicated educator who spent 40 years serving Phenix City Schools, working as an elementary school principal and directing Head Start and adult education programs. Rutledge was recognized as a "Community Legend" by the Samarc Foundation in 2012 and inducted into the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame in 2014, known for his warm broadcasting style, commitment to his faith, and ability to uplift those around him. The resolution, passed by the Senate, honors his integrity, intelligence, and generosity, and expresses deep regret at his passing. It also directs the Secretary of the Senate to make an appropriate copy of the resolution available to Rutledge's family as a memorial to his significant contributions to the community.
