This resolution recognizes Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Geneva Heyward for her distinguished 27-year military career in the United States Army, during which she served as a Communications Electronic Officer in the Signal Corps across both active duty and Army Reserve. Originally from Beaufort, South Carolina, Heyward was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1981 after graduating from Central State University and completed her initial training at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Throughout her career, she held various significant roles, including assignments in Germany with the 52nd Signal Battalion, service with the 335th Signal Theater Command, and positions at Fort Eisenhower and Fort Gillem. She was promoted through the ranks from Second Lieutenant to Lieutenant Colonel, earning numerous awards including two Meritorious Service Medals and the President's Lifetime Achievement Award. The resolution specifically commends her for her exceptional military service, her contributions to communications operations, and her continued community engagement, particularly through her involvement with the National Association of Black Military Women.
