AI Summary

This bill requires the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services to submit a state plan amendment or waiver to the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to provide coverage for standard fertility preservation services under both the Medicaid and Hawki (Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa) programs. The bill defines standard fertility preservation services as medical procedures consistent with guidelines from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) or the American Society of Clinical Oncology, specifically for individuals who have a medical condition or are expected to undergo treatments that could impair their fertility. These services include up to three oocyte (egg) retrievals with unlimited embryo transfers, with a preference for single embryo transfer when medically recommended. Once federal approval is received, both the Medicaid and Hawki programs would be required to immediately provide coverage for these fertility preservation services, helping patients who may face fertility challenges due to medical treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery.
