This bill makes several changes to Nevada's governance of state boards and commissions. First, it modifies how the Chair and Vice Chair of the Sunset Subcommittee (a legislative oversight committee) are selected, shifting from an election by voting members to an appointment by the Chair of the Legislative Commission. The bill also eliminates two reporting requirements for professional and occupational licensing boards: they will no longer be required to submit quarterly reports about petitions reviewing criminal histories of potential license applicants, and the Sunset Subcommittee will no longer be mandated to review whether restrictions on applicants with criminal histories are appropriate. These changes essentially reduce administrative reporting burdens and centralize some selection processes within the legislative leadership. The Sunset Subcommittee will continue to exist and maintain its other oversight functions, but with streamlined selection processes and fewer mandatory reporting requirements for licensing boards.
