This resolution declares March 12, 2025 as "Jerry Butler Day" in the State of Illinois to honor the life and legacy of Jerry "Iceman" Butler, a prominent musician and Cook County politician who passed away on February 20, 2025. Originally from Mississippi and raised in Chicago's Cabrini-Green housing development, Butler was a famous member of the Impressions musical group, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, and a three-time Grammy Award nominee. Beyond his musical career, Butler served 32 years on the Cook County Board, where he was chairman of the Health and Hospitals Committee and was instrumental in opening John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital. The resolution mourns his passing, recognizes his significant contributions to music and public service, and extends condolences to his surviving family members, including his sons Anthony and Randy, four grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. The Illinois Senate will present a copy of the resolution to Butler's family as an expression of sympathy.
