This bill establishes the "Nurse of Tomorrow Act" to address nursing shortages and support nursing education and recruitment through three primary grant programs. The first program provides grants to public and not-for-profit hospitals and skilled nursing facilities to support nurse retention and recruitment, including salary bonuses for nurses who commit to multi-year employment, bonuses for nurses returning to practice, skills training and career development, tuition reimbursement for nursing degrees, summer internships for student nurses, and other approved strategies. The grants will prioritize facilities with financial need. The second program offers grants to associate degree nursing schools to expand student enrollment, with preference given to schools that demonstrate abilities to recruit a multicultural student body, provide remedial education, create plans for recruiting healthcare workers, develop modern classrooms with advanced technologies, and substantially increase student enrollment. The third program provides grants to various nursing education entities and professional associations to develop programs encouraging secondary school students to pursue nursing as a career. These comprehensive initiatives aim to address nursing workforce challenges by supporting current nurses, expanding educational opportunities, and inspiring future healthcare professionals.
