This resolution mourns the death of Dr. Richard J. Martwick IV, a prominent educator and public servant who passed away on November 5, 2024, and celebrates his significant life achievements. Born in 1929, Martwick was a University of Detroit graduate and football team co-captain who served in the U.S. Air Force as a first lieutenant and became the Great Plains Heavyweight Boxing Champion. He worked as an English teacher and football coach at Ridgewood High School and served as Cook County Regional Superintendent of Education for 24 years, the last to hold that position before its dissolution in 1994. The resolution highlights his innovative educational leadership, for which he received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters in 1977, and describes him as a person of integrity, loyalty, and dedication who was deeply committed to his family. The Illinois Senate extends its sincere condolences to his surviving sons, Richard J. Martwick V and Thomas Martwick, and his brother Robert F. Martwick, while also resolving to present a copy of the resolution to his family as an expression of sympathy.
