This resolution joyously celebrates the 83rd anniversary of the Seabees, a specialized United States Navy construction force originally created in 1942 by Rear Admiral Ben Morrell to build and maintain overseas bases during World War II. The resolution highlights the remarkable contributions of over 350,000 Seabees who served in multiple global theaters during World War II, constructing critical infrastructure like piers, hospitals, and airfields under extremely challenging conditions including enemy bombardment, harsh weather, and potential disease. The Seabees are praised for their legendary "can do" spirit, having served with honor and valor in every modern American conflict from World War II through engagements in the Middle East, and for their ability to quickly unload vital supplies and create essential facilities that support military operations. The Rhode Island House of Representatives formally congratulates the Seabees on their anniversary and directs the Secretary of State to send a certified copy of the resolution to Rear Admiral Bradley J. Andros, Commander of the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, as a gesture of recognition and appreciation for their significant military service.
