The bill provides additional protections by ensuring that building, fire safety, and fire prevention codes still apply, and offers a three-year tax assessment freeze for converted properties. As an added incentive, municipalities that adopt these zoning regulations will receive priority funding under a greyfield revitalization program, potentially encouraging the repurposing of underutilized commercial spaces into much-needed residential housing.
