This bill proposes to restructure the governance of the Tenth School District in Wilson County, Tennessee, by expanding the school board from three to five members, with each member representing a distinct district. The five districts will be drawn to have equal population, and board members will be elected by qualified voters in their respective districts. Board members will serve staggered four-year terms, with two or three members' terms expiring every two years. Candidates must be at least 25 years old, reside in the district they seek to represent for more than one year prior to the election, and are limited to serving two terms. The current board members will remain in place until their current terms expire, and during the transition, odd-numbered districts will be elected to two-year terms while even-numbered districts will be elected to four-year terms. Vacancies will be filled by appointment or election by the remaining board members until the next general biennial August election. The board will have the power to elect teachers, manage school property, and control district affairs, and the bill will only take effect if approved by a two-thirds vote of the Wilson County legislative body.
