This bill establishes two key provisions: first, it modifies the existing wolf hunting season regulations by requiring the commissioner of natural resources to prescribe an annual open season for wolves that aligns with the wolf management plan, and mandates annual consultation with agricultural authorities to review wolf-related conflict data. Second, the bill creates a Northeast Deer Management Task Force by October 1, 2025, consisting of hunters, wildlife managers, Tribal members, and other stakeholders primarily from northeastern Minnesota. The task force's primary goal is to develop recommendations for increasing deer populations in the region. The commissioner must meet with the task force at least three times per year and the task force is required to submit a final report to the commissioner and legislative committee chairs by August 1, 2027. The task force will expire upon submission of its report or on August 1, 2027, whichever comes first. The membership, compensation, and removal of task force members will follow standard state guidelines for advisory bodies.
