AI Summary
This bill addresses salary increases and adjustments for state elected officials in Iowa, consisting of two main divisions. In Division I, the bill increases legislative salaries by raising the annual salary for general assembly members from $25,000 to $45,000, with additional increases for leadership positions like the speaker of the house and senate leaders. Starting in 2028 and continuing until 2043, legislators will receive an annual cost-of-living adjustment equal to the pay adjustment for executive branch non-contract state employees, capped at 3%. Division II focuses on statewide elected executive officials, significantly increasing salaries for positions such as the governor (by $100,000), lieutenant governor (by $36,788), and other state officials like the secretary of state, auditor, treasurer, agriculture secretary, and attorney general. These salary increases will also include annual cost-of-living adjustments from July 1, 2027, to June 30, 2042, following the same formula as the legislative adjustments. The salary increases for legislative members will take effect when the 92nd General Assembly convenes in January 2027, while the executive official salary changes will take effect on January 1, 2027. The bill aims to provide more competitive compensation for elected state officials and ensure their salaries keep pace with economic changes.
