This concurrent resolution requests the Hawaii Department of Transportation (DOT) to accelerate the adoption of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) as part of the state's climate strategy. Recognizing that the transportation sector contributes 48% of Hawaii's greenhouse gas emissions, with aviation being a significant contributor, the resolution calls for the DOT to collaborate with the State Energy Office, airlines, fuel producers, and other stakeholders to develop policies and infrastructure supporting SAF production and use. The resolution is particularly urgent given Hawaii's goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% below 2005 levels by 2030 and achieve net-zero transportation emissions by 2045.
