This resolution honors the life and memory of Bobby C. Pate, a distinguished athlete and coach from Georgia who passed away on September 28, 2024. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Pate was a talented football player who played college football at South Georgia State College and Presbyterian College, where he was named Player of the Year and South Carolina Back of the Year. He was drafted by both the NFL's San Francisco 49ers and the AFL's Boston Patriots in 1960. After his playing career, Pate transitioned to coaching, serving as an assistant and head coach at various high schools in Georgia from 1963 to 1974, and later as an assistant coach at Western Carolina University and head coach at the University of West Georgia, where he led the team to an NCAA Division III National Championship in 1982.
