This bill amends the social services law to clarify and limit the experiential qualifications for group teachers in child day care centers. Specifically, for preschool classes, if a teacher has an associate's degree in early childhood, child development, or a related field, or holds a child development associate credential or other office-recognized credential specific to the preschool developmental period, no additional childcare experience will be required. Similarly, for infant or toddler classes, if a teacher has an associate's degree in early childhood, child development, or a related field, plus one year of experience caring for infants and toddlers, or holds an infant and toddler-specific credential, no further childcare experience will be mandated. The legislation aims to standardize and potentially simplify the qualification requirements for teachers in different age group settings, ensuring that educational credentials can sufficiently demonstrate a teacher's preparedness to work with children in day care centers.
