This bill adds new restrictions and provisions for public data requests made to school districts in Minnesota. Specifically, the bill defines a "school district" as including independent, common, special school districts, and certain cooperative units. The new provisions apply to requests to inspect or receive copies of public government data, and are designed to supplement existing data request rules. A key addition is that if a person who requests data fails to appear within 30 calendar days to inspect the requested information, the school district can require the requester to pay not only standard administrative fees, but also the additional cost of employee time spent separating public from non-public data.
