This concurrent resolution urges the City and County of Honolulu to complete the construction of the Waianae Police Station, which was initially opened in May 2016 but remains only partially functional. The resolution highlights that over $16 million was initially invested in the police substation, which includes sixteen holding cells, more than sixty parking spaces, a radio tower, and a receiving desk, but an additional $6 million is needed to make the facility fully operational. The resolution notes that the substation has been underutilized for approximately ten years, during a period when crime in West Oahu has increased, particularly with a substantial rise in homicides in Honolulu Police Department District Eight during 2023 and 2024. In response to these crime trends, the Mayor of Honolulu and the Police Chief have pledged additional law enforcement resources to the West Oahu area. The resolution formally requests that the City and County of Honolulu complete the construction of the Waianae Police Station and directs that certified copies of the resolution be sent to the Mayor, Managing Director, and Chief of the Honolulu Police Department.
