The resolution highlights that the current lessee, Ho Retail Properties I, Ltd., has failed to properly maintain the property, leading to significant deterioration, persistent leaks, structural concerns, and multiple store vacancies that negatively impact local commerce and employment. The poor property condition undermines DHHL's mission to manage assets for Native Hawaiian beneficiaries and potentially reduces leasing revenue. To address these issues, the resolution calls on DHHL to either repeal, revoke, or buy out the remainder of the current lease and then resell it at fair market value to a new entity that commits to proper maintenance and economic revitalization. The resolution also directs that a certified copy be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Hawaiian Homes Commission.
