This resolution requests the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) to establish a Kailua Bay Advisory Working Group to address multifaceted challenges and opportunities surrounding the Kailua Pier on Hawai'i Island. The group would be tasked with providing a structured platform for stakeholders to collaborate on interjurisdictional issues, implement safety improvements, ensure the viability of commercial and cultural activities, monitor pier maintenance and repairs, address environmental concerns, develop policy recommendations, serve as a community liaison, and track emerging challenges. The resolution specifically requests that the working group convene monthly and submit quarterly reports to the Legislature for two years beginning in 2025, with the aim of enhancing the management and sustainable operation of this historically and economically significant location that serves as a vital hub for cultural, recreational, and economic activities in West Hawai'i.
