This resolution recognizes and commends the ALStar Youth Leadership Conference on its fifth anniversary, celebrating a unique initiative that supports African-American youth leadership in West Tennessee. The conference, which was conceived in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic by a group of young founders including Alex Beene and others, is a partnership between local community leaders, the University of Tennessee at Martin (UTM), and the WestStar Leadership team. Held annually in January, the conference focuses on developing high school students' skills in professional development, financial literacy, leadership techniques, and team building, with the goal of encouraging young people to take leadership roles in their counties. Since its inception, the conference has served hundreds of students, many of whom have become leaders in their schools and communities, and have gone on to attend over 25 different colleges and universities, earning more than $1 million in scholarships. The resolution expresses gratitude for the conference's important work and extends best wishes for its continued success in cultivating future African-American leaders in West Tennessee.
