This bill modifies the licensing requirements for respiratory therapists in New York state by introducing new educational standards. The bill also changes the licensing process for respiratory therapy technicians, establishing an initial three-year license that requires technicians to subsequently obtain a respiratory therapist license to continue practicing. Existing licensed respiratory therapists and technicians as of the bill's effective date are grandfathered in and will not be required to meet the new educational requirements. The new educational requirements will take effect three years after the bill becomes law, providing professionals time to adapt to the new standards and pursue advanced education.
