This bill establishes a special commission on creating a more diversified teaching workforce in Massachusetts, comprising a diverse group of educational leaders and representatives. The commission will include high-level officials such as the Secretary of Education (who will serve as Chairperson), chairs of legislative education committees, commissioners of early education, elementary and secondary education, and higher education, and representatives from various educational institutions and organizations including the University of Massachusetts, state universities, community colleges, independent colleges, teachers' unions, school superintendents, school committees, school personnel administrators, and school principals' associations. Members will be appointed by the Secretary of Education, and the commission must begin its work within 60 days of the act's effective date. The commission is required to submit a comprehensive report to the state legislature and governor within one year, including its study findings and any proposed legislation, regulations, or administrative procedures to implement its recommendations for diversifying the teaching workforce.
