This bill modifies Chapter 44B of the Massachusetts General Laws, which governs Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds, to allow coastal communities that choose to opt in to allocate at least 10% of their community preservation funds specifically for coastal infrastructure projects. These projects would include beach nourishment (adding sand to eroded beaches), dune restoration (rebuilding and stabilizing sand dunes), and seawall maintenance and reconstruction. The bill makes a small technical amendment by removing the word "and" from an existing line of the law and then inserting the new language about coastal infrastructure preservation. The change provides municipalities with additional flexibility in using CPA funds to address coastal resilience and protect infrastructure in areas vulnerable to sea level rise and storm damage.
