AI Summary

This bill amends the existing law for the State Court of Henry County to add a fifth judge to the court, effective January 1, 2026. The new judge will initially be appointed by the Governor for a term ending December 31, 2028, with subsequent judges to be elected by county voters in nonpartisan elections every four years starting in 2028. The bill specifies that all five judges will be full-time, paid 90% of the salary of Superior Court judges, and subject to the same qualifications and restrictions as outlined in Georgia law. The bill also establishes that the longest-serving judge will serve as the chief judge and receive an additional $10,000 annual salary supplement for administrative duties. Additionally, the chief judge is granted the ability to appoint a judge pro hac vice (a temporary judge) for up to one year if necessary, who must meet the same requirements as a regular State Court judge. The act will become effective upon gubernatorial approval or when it becomes law without such approval.
