This bill modifies Section 12 of Chapter 32 of the General Laws, specifically addressing Option (d), which is a Member Survivor Allowance provision. Under the proposed change, a member can nominate one or more eligible beneficiaries prior to their death using a prescribed form, and these beneficiaries would receive a portion of the yearly amount the member would have been entitled to if they had retired on the date of their death. An important new provision is that when multiple beneficiaries are nominated, the benefit calculation will be based on the youngest beneficiary's age at the time of the member's death.
