This bill seeks to amend Chapter 111 of the Massachusetts General Laws by eliminating the current provisions regarding water fluoridation and replacing them with a new section that explicitly prohibits the artificial addition of fluoride to municipal water supplies. Specifically, the bill would ban the practice of augmenting fluoride concentrations through the use of fluoridation water additives throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Water fluoridation is a public health practice of adding fluoride to public water systems to help prevent tooth decay, but this legislation would make such artificial fluoridation schemes illegal. By striking out the existing section 8C and inserting this new language, the bill represents a direct effort to stop the intentional fluoridation of municipal water at the state level.
