This bill establishes a Middlesex Working Group (MWG) to study the potential creation of a Middlesex Regional Commission (MRC) that would serve the 54 municipalities in Middlesex County. The bill recognizes concerns about overdevelopment, including environmental degradation such as wetlands loss, reduced open space, and agricultural land reduction, as well as challenges like school district pressures and construction quality. The bill is modeled in part after the existing Cape Cod Commission, with the ultimate aim of creating a supervisory body that can address regional development challenges in a coordinated manner.
