This bill updates the composition of the juvenile justice policy and data board by increasing its total membership from 21 to 23 members and adding specific new representation. The bill adds the executive director of the Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Youth (or their designee) as a board member. Additionally, it modifies the requirements for members with juvenile justice experience, now specifying that 3 members will be individuals with past juvenile justice involvement, including at least one parent whose child has been subject to juvenile court jurisdiction and one adult who was personally subject to juvenile court jurisdiction as a child. These members would be selected from lists provided by The Transformation Center DBA Kiva Centers and the Parent/Professional Advocacy League, Inc. The changes aim to broaden the board's perspective by including more diverse voices with direct experience in the juvenile justice system, particularly those from LGBTQ+ and formerly justice-involved backgrounds.
