The commission is tasked with investigating ways to improve equity in agriculture, including examining data collection, developing benchmarks, improving access to grant programs, enhancing legislative and regulatory processes, and improving agricultural services and programs. The commission is required to hold at least three public hearings across different regions of the state, with at least one in a rural area and one in an urban area. By December 31, 2027, the commission must submit a comprehensive report to the state legislature, including recommendations and potential legislative actions to address equity issues in agriculture. The report will cover groups such as African Americans, Cape Verdeans, Hispanics, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, Caribbean Islanders, Native Americans, and Alaskan natives, with the goal of creating more inclusive and equitable agricultural opportunities in Massachusetts.
