These requirements would apply to buildings with building permits issued one year after the city or town accepts the bill's provisions. Importantly, the bill does not require existing buildings to retrofit sprinkler systems. The local fire department head will be responsible for enforcing these requirements, and any individuals who disagree with the fire department's interpretation or actions can appeal to the board of appeals within 45 days. Additionally, the bill includes a provision that allows for seasonal shutoff of automatic sprinklers installed under this new section, provided the shutoff follows procedures established by the Board of Fire Prevention Regulations.
