This bill establishes a special 11-member commission to study and develop strategies for improving pollinator health and habitat across Massachusetts. The commission will include representatives from the state legislature, government agencies, universities, farming and beekeeping organizations, and conservation groups. They will investigate opportunities to enhance pollinator habitats in diverse settings like farm borders, forests, residential areas, parks, urban spaces, industrial zones, energy corridors, and transportation routes. The commission will examine pollinators broadly, including bees, butterflies, moths, beetles, ants, bats, and birds. Their specific tasks include identifying existing pollinator protection laws, studying successful public education approaches, assessing funding adequacy, investigating pollinator population data collection methods, evaluating best management practices for pollinator health, and researching ways to expand public education about protecting pollinator habitats. By September 1, 2026, the commission must submit a report with their findings and potential legislative recommendations to the state's ways and means committees and the environment, natural resources, and agriculture committee.
