This resolution mourns the passing of Dr. Amour Jean Logan Andrews, a distinguished educator and community leader from Oklahoma who became a prominent figure in Chicago's educational landscape. Born in 1946 in Wagoner, Oklahoma, Dr. Andrews was a trailblazing Black woman who earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Oklahoma in 1972, at a time when such achievements were rare for Black women. Throughout her career, she held numerous leadership roles in education, including serving as dean of student services at Harold Washington College, assistant principal at multiple high schools, and a literacy coordinator. Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Andrews was a founding board member of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago, served on the Retired Teachers Association of Chicago's Board, and established the Amour Jean Logan Andrews Foundation in 2023 to support educational opportunities for underserved students. The resolution highlights her commitment to mentorship, social justice, and community support, emphasizing her role as a devoted mother and grandmother who consistently uplifted those around her. The Illinois House of Representatives extends its deepest condolences to her family and aims to honor her transformative legacy by presenting a copy of this resolution to her family.
