This bill revises the requirements for annual accountability reports in public schools by mandating that school districts, charter school sponsors, and the State Board of Education include specific information about student achievement for pupils with more than 10 absences before standardized testing periods. Currently, annual accountability reports must include various student performance metrics, and this bill adds a new requirement to track and report the achievement of students who have missed 10 or more school days prior to key examinations, such as criterion-referenced tests and college and career readiness assessments. The new reporting must break down this achievement data by different student groups identified in the statewide accountability system, with the caveat that reporting will not occur if the group size is too small to provide statistically reliable information or would reveal personally identifiable student data. An absence is defined as missing an entire school day, including partial days, regardless of whether the absence is excused. The bill aims to provide more comprehensive insights into how student absences might correlate with academic performance, and these new reporting requirements will take effect on July 1, 2025.
