This bill creates an electronic platform called My Texas Future (MyTexasFuture.Org) to help high school students become more aware of and apply to higher education institutions. The platform will include a link to a common admission application, a direct admissions program that suggests colleges based on a student's profile, potential financial aid information, and data to help students assess the value of different postsecondary credentials. Before graduating high school, students will be required to choose whether to allow their educational data to be shared with higher education institutions for the direct admissions program. Students can opt out with parental consent or through a school counselor. Each institution of higher education must publish a link to MyTexasFuture.Org on their admission website. School districts must notify parents and guardians about the platform during the high school registration process, explaining the option to create a profile and the graduation requirement to indicate data sharing preferences. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board will manage the platform and ensure student information remains confidential, following federal privacy guidelines. The bill will take effect for the 2025-2026 academic year, with full implementation by the 2026-2027 academic year.
