This bill requires the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) to conduct a comprehensive review of the state's Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) program, a regulatory mandate that requires electricity providers to source a certain percentage of their power from renewable energy sources like solar or wind. In collaboration with the Department of Environmental Protection, DOER will evaluate the program's effectiveness and explore potential improvements to support more affordable renewable energy development in the state. Within 12 months of the legislation's effective date, DOER must submit a detailed report of its findings and recommendations to the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy, as well as to the clerks of the Massachusetts House and Senate, providing a strategic assessment of how to enhance the state's renewable energy policy.
