This bill requires the Board of Registration in Medicine to collect voluntary demographic and professional data from physicians during their initial licensure and license renewal processes starting January 1, 2027. Specifically, physicians will be asked to provide information about their race, ethnicity, gender identity, linguistic capabilities, medical specialty, practice locations, years of practice in Massachusetts, and employment status. The data collection is voluntary, and providing or not providing this information will not impact a physician's licensure. The Center for Health Information and Analysis will be responsible for aggregating and de-identifying the data, then publishing it on their website within 60 days of each year's end. The purpose of this data collection is to assess physician workforce diversity and its potential relationship to health outcomes in Massachusetts. The collected information cannot be sold to third parties, and the Center must provide an annual report on the data to the state legislature, the Joint Committee on Public Health, and the Department of Public Health by February 28th each year. The bill will become effective 90 days after its enactment.
