This bill directs the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) to establish a comprehensive Parkinson's disease public information and education program in collaboration with the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association. The program aims to increase public awareness about Parkinson's disease and the importance of early detection by creating informational resources that cover key topics including the disease's causes, diagnostic procedures, lifestyle management strategies (such as nutrition and exercise), environmental safety, and available local treatment services. The bill requires the DPH to develop informational booklets about Parkinson's disease in both English and Spanish, which will be made available electronically and in print to healthcare facilities, professionals, community health centers, and the general public. Additionally, the DPH must develop educational programs for various professional personnel like judicial staff, police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical service providers to help them recognize Parkinson's disease symptoms and appropriately respond to individuals with the condition. The department will also create and maintain a list of specialized Parkinson's disease service providers, with a disclaimer that the department does not endorse specific programs or centers. The bill is set to take effect 180 days after its enactment.
